Regional Leadership Groups (RLGs)

As the ADT movement expended, International colleagues wished to initiate Regional Leadership Groups (RLGs). RLGs have thus far been established in North America, Japan and China. The RLGs provide opportunity for colleagues to meet and communicate in the periods between the International Triennial ADT Conferences. The RLGs are valuable in allowing regional interests to be developed and for colleagues within a region to get to know one another. The RLGs also provide a forum to colleagues that allows for development of regional strategies to participate in the International Triennial ADT Conferences.

Importance of Industry Partner Participation –
A Unique Aspect of the ADT

An important aspect of the ADT is that the clinical, industry and science world all have an equal role to play in the organization. This requires that industry partner of the ADT actively participate in the ADT to present their technology development. In this manner the RLGs also bring together colleagues from industry, clinicians, clinical scientists and basic scientists in to a synergistic environment.

History of the Advanced Technology Conference

In March of 2002, a three-day workshop on advanced technology applications for head and neck reconstruction was held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The conference was co-hosted by the Craniofacial Osseointegration and the Maxillofacial Prosthetic Rehabilitation Unit, Misericordia Hospital, Caritas Health Group/University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada and the Maxillofacial Unit, Morriston Hospital, Swansea, Wales, UK. The initial intent was to hold a small meeting to discuss potential for collaboration between professionals and potential industry partners to identify advanced technologies in head and neck reconstruction. Delegates participated from thirteen countries. At the conclusion of the meeting, findings of a questionnaire on future directions was discussed. The result was a unanimous decision to continue to a full international conference of broader scope.

The second AT meeting was held in Banff, Alberta Canada, March 10-13, 2005 with 225+ delegates, industry representatives and accompanying guests in attendance, representing 22 countries.  This was a very successful meeting and spectacular venue.  Conference details can be reviewed at our AT 2005 web site.

June 29 to July 1, 2008 was our third ADT meeting held in Cardiff, Wales UK with 185+ delegates representing some 30 countries. Another successful meeting and wonderful venue. Conference details can be reviewed at our ADT 2008 web site.
